Ethical Business + Equality

Here at Sesa Pure, we have always valued diversity and social justice, and we will only continue to maintain business practices that reflect those values. Within the context of recent events, we want to take a moment to highlight how and why we believe it is important to imbue these principles into practices within our business model. We will stay true to our roots by continuing to uphold our values and by fighting for social justice causes, especially within the food and beverage industry, so that we may continue the work of creating a just and equitable world.

We have and will continue to stand by our values through multiple avenues. One of the ways we have always engaged with our community so as to improve outcomes has been through partnerships with local nonprofits. From the inception of our company, we have always engaged in and supported community giving. Two of the organizations we proudly support are Urban Roots and Good Work Austin. Another way we help make the world a more equitable place is through our conscientious sourcing. All of our ingredients are sourced from farms that take the utmost care of not only their plants but also the workers tending those plants. We believe every human that engages with our product shall be taken care of and treated with dignity and respect. Read on to find out more about the two organizations we are currently supporting, our commitment to continuing and to strengthening our ethical business practices, and how your continued support can help us make a greater impact.

Youth Empowerment: Urban Roots

In recent weeks, we have seen a rise in conversations that have opened up many people’s eyes to the disparities among us. When we think about how we might contribute to fostering change - each of our voices matter. What matters even more is taking actionable steps that create positive change.

Urban Roots has been one example of a group taking such tangible action, and it has been active for over a decade here in Austin. They value working from the ground up and within our local community. Urban Roots has truly had a positive impact on how we manage the social injustices in our community. They do this by using food and farming to transform the lives of young people and to inspire, engage, and nourish the community. Their impact is not only limited to health and wellness; they help develop youth to be leaders in their homes, schools and communities. To this day, Urban Roots continues to be a source of food for the neediest among us through their donations to seven hunger relief agencies throughout Austin. We have been thankful to see Urban Roots grow, and we have had the pleasure of supporting fundraising projects for them. This year, we are determined to build on our collective values and to do more to share their story. Stay tuned this summer as we relaunch our support for their work. Join us and join Urban Roots in helping transform youth into leaders who are empowered to cultivate positive change.

We encourage you to participate in this transformational organization through donating directly or by signing up to volunteer after things open up more. Find information about donating here and volunteering here.

Safely Opening + Workers’ Rights: Good Work Austin

Good Work Austin is an advocacy group fighting at the city and state level for local small business and employee-friendly legislation.

Good Work Austin was formed by a group of small business leaders in Austin who saw the need for raising the bar in how we do business and how businesses treat their employees. GWA realizes the importance of working together to make a positive impact in our community. Sesa Pure has been actively supporting Good Work Austin build a stronger network of local small independent businesses to help each other, our employees and our community.

GWA's first official campaign was released in response to COVID-19 after leaders recognized the imbalance of support for small independent operators in the restaurant & hospitality industry. This first campaign, Dine with Confidence, was designed to help restaurants be better prepared for re-opening while maintaining the safety of both employees and guests alike. GWA’s next endeavor is to help businesses commit to diversity & equity in their workplaces and to reflect upon where each business has room to improve. Here at Sesa Pure we are proud to support these initiatives to create a more just and equitable working environment within the local food service ecosystem. Sesa’s Commitment to a More Just World

We believe everyone has the right to be well. By acting in a socially responsible manner, we are able to have a positive impact on social justice. When we take care of ourselves and each other, we can collectively create healthy and whole communities. We aspire to support and to encourage social justice initiatives and equality among individuals and communities both near and far. However, we want you to know that we understand positive change takes time, hard work and honest commitment. Creating lasting change and social equity is a cause that needs constant, ongoing effort from all sides, from businesses and customers alike. As we continue to overcome our own barriers to growth and success, we promise to remain committed to being socially responsible and to supporting diversity. We wanted to share with you some of the ways we will continue having a positive impact on our community and throughout our supply chains.

1. Grower Integrity

We will continue to source our ingredients directly from growers who are committed to giving back to both their community and the land. Climate justice is also a social issue, and we are committed to maintaining our ecologically conscientious business practices from the farm to your cup. Moreover, we ensure that each of the workers throughout our supply chain is treated with the dignity and respect they deserve by only partnering with socially responsible companies.

2. Community Partnerships

We will continue to partner with local organizations that create positive outcomes in the health and well being of diverse communities. We will continue our long-standing partnerships with Urban Roots and Good Work Austin, as mentioned above, and we will seek out new opportunities for developing relationships with nonprofits and community organizations dedicated to diversity, equality and social justice, especially within the food and beverage space.

3. Inclusive Culture

We are committed to strengthening our inclusive culture both within our team and for our customers. We have always been a wholeheartedly equal-opportunity employer, and we are committed to fostering a diversity of thought, experience and culture within our team to create a vibrant and conscientious workplace. Just as we commit to our employees, we promise you, our cherished customer, that we will always meet you where you are and cultivate inclusive, thoughtful connections and beverage experiences. After all, we firmly believe that everyone should drink with purpose.

4. Ongoing Education

We plan to take a more proactive approach to sharing information about our practices and about social justice in our content. It is only through education that we can collectively become more aware and engaged citizens. We will strive to share pertinent information and ways of getting involved in the local community and beyond.

Connect With Us

We will always be ready to listen and to support causes for positive change and social justice. If you are a part of an organization or business that wants to partner with us - reach out. We want to learn more and see how we can help our community together!
