Not Your Average Coffee

This year helped the inner baristas come out for many people especially those connected to social media. Whipped Coffee was among the sensational drinks that surfaced. Whipped Coffee became all the rage in America when a TikTok video showing how simple it was to make went viral. Originating in South Korea and called Dalgona Coffee, Whipped Coffee is a great way to uniquely replicate the coffeehouse at home. Whipped Coffee is also popular in India, where it is called Beaten Coffee.

We’ve come up with a recipe that is sure to delight your senses. Featuring instant coffee, milk, and sugar, this recipe couldn’t be more simple! It can be made either iced or hot, so it is a great caffeinated antidote to the summer heat, or can warm you up in the wintertime.

Beautiful Simplicity

So simple to make, Whipped Coffee just requires beating equal parts instant coffee, sugar and water until frothy and lightened. Once the mixture is super thick and frothy, simply spoon over iced or hot milk, stir and enjoy! See our full recipe for a single cup below with a little twish of our own!

Stir it up!

Here you can see how dark and liquidy the mixture starts out, but don’t worry! With a little elbow grease or the help of a stand or hand mixer, the blend will turn a warm caramel color and get nice and frothy with stiff peaks.

Some Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Do I have to use instant coffee?
Yes, regular coffee will not work in this recipe. Regular coffee must be brewed in order to taste good, so you’ll just end up with a nasty sludge if you use regular coffee.
  1. What kind of sugar should I use?
Tried and true granulated sugar works best here. That being said, there are tons of suitable granulated sugar options out there. Some options include traditional white sugar, cane sugar, brown sugar, coconut sugar or even raw sugar.
  1. Can I use less sugar or skip it entirely?
Absolutely! You can use less sugar, skip it entirely, or replace it with a sugar substitute like Stevia. The only caveat here is that your mixture will not fluff up quite as much.
  1. Is there a good brand of Instant Coffee to use?
Any kind of instant coffee will work with this recipe. Nescafe is one of the most widely available brands, but any brand you like will work! Our tip to make your beverage enjoyable is to of course make a cup of Sesa Malai Coffee then top it off with the whipped coffee!

See!? Here’s how the mixture should look before you pour it over your favorite milk or milk alternative.

Alternative Applications for Whipped Coffee

While traditionally most enjoyed as a beverage, Whipped Coffee can be used as a whipped cream replacement in any number of desserts and recipes. From using as a topping for ice cream to using to frost a muffin, Whipped Coffee can be paired with any number of sweets to create a unique and delicious offering. If you do choose to use this recipe as a dessert topping, just be sure that you’ve really whipped it into stiff peaks, as you don’t want it sliding off onto the plate. In this case, you may have to whip for an extra couple of minutes just to be safe. We especially love this recipe poured over vanilla ice cream to create an Affogato-esque dessert that is a perfect blend of cooling, comforting, and invigorating. This may just be your new weekend brunch beverage treat!
