Healing Herbs
There's a reason chamomile is such a popular drink. It's loaded with health benefits. We've all taken chamomile once or twice at night to promote a restful night sleep but did you know there are all sorts of other amazing benefits to drinking chamomile!?
So....what are some of these amazing traits? Here are our top 5 reasons to love chamomile: 1. Anti-Inflammatory
used as Chamomile contains two types of antioxidants, terpenoids and flavonoids, which are linked to many of its medicinal properties. These powerful compounds help fight the pain, congestion, swelling, and redness associated with inflammation. This anti-inflammatory action is the same reason chamomile is often added to skin creams and other cosmetics, to reduce redness and help heal the skin. Chamomile has been used as an herbal pain reliever for centuries.
2. Immune Booster
Traditionally, chamomile has been used to treat or fight the common cold. It is believed that its anti-inflammatory and calming properties aid in easing the pesky symptoms of the common cold such as runny nose and sore throat. In addition to drinking chamomile, inhaling the steam from a hot cup or bowl of the tea works to clear and calm nasal passages.
3. Anxiety Relief
Chamomile is a natural relaxant, with mild sedative properties. As such, it is a great way to unwind from a chaotic, stressful day. Not only does the meditative process of brewing a fresh cup of tea soothe the soul, but also the compounds in chamomile are linked to increased feelings of relaxation and well-being. It can even be used before bed to promote a restful night's sleep!
4. Stomach Soothing
Studies have shown that chamomile can reduce stomach acidity, helping to prevent ulcers and aiding in smooth digestion. In traditional medicine, chamomile has often been used to treat nausea, bloating, and gas.
5. Lowering Blood Sugar
Chamomile has been shown to help reduce blood sugar levels in people with diabetes. One study even concluded that regular chamomile use prevented blood sugar spikes, thus reducing the likelihood of long term diabetes complications.
Citrus Addition
