Mother's Day Tea
Just in time for Mother's Day we've launched our custom Darjeeling Rose Tea blend. A delicately floral blend of First Flush Darjeeling black tea, rosebuds, and rose petals this brews a fragrant, relaxing cup of tea!
We'll explore the Darjeeling region, what makes it so special and why Darjeeling Rose is a luscious cup of tea packed with health benefits. Darjeeling
Located in the Indian state of West Bengal in the foothills of the Himalayas, Darjeeling produces the lightest, most fragrant of the Indian tea varieties. Darjeeling tea is available in white, green, and black varieties.
Our Darjeeling Rose is made with First Flush or Spring Harvest black tea leaves. The Spring Harvest produces lighter, less oxidized tea leaves as they are picked young to provide a more delicate flavor. First Flush tea leaves also retain higher levels of antioxidants because they are less oxidized. Darjeeling Black retains a slightly malty, delicately fruity profile, suiting it to pairing with the floral notes of Rose. Rose as an Ingredient
Rose has been used for millennia as an ingredient from healthcare to food and beverage. Long known for its healing and calming properties, Rose is a perfect accompaniment to delicate Darjeeling. Let’s explore our top four favorite health benefits of this powerful superfood.
Calming
Rose contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds that soothe the heart, soul, and skin from the inside out. Rose, long used in skincare applications, is known to have a calming effect on the skin when applied topically as well as when taken orally. Research shows that it can help relax the central nervous system, facilitating a sense of peace and relaxation, while also preventing some of the damaging effects of cortisol, the stress hormone.
Brain Function
Research has shown that inhaling rose or drinking rose-infused products can produce antidepressant and anti-anxiety effects. It is believed to also facilitate restful sleep. Rose can be used to treat a variety of mental health conditions including soothing grief, stress, tension, and depression. Rose has even been used in the treatment of dementia with some success. A specific protein fragment called amyloid has been proven to impair brain function, and rose contains an amyloid inhibitor, thus making rose helpful in improving brain function
Menstrual Issues
Known as a calming agent, rose can help ease the pain of menstrual cramps. In addition, the tea may also alleviate the heaviness of a woman’s flow while reducing pain associated with menstruation.
Digestion
Rose has been shown to increase bile flow, thus helping ease the symptoms of bloating and upset stomach. Rose’s calming properties also serve to calm the alimentary tract, facilitating a smooth digestive process.
General Health Elixir
Rose contains a variety of powerfully healthy compounds. It is a good source of Vitamin C, a known immune booster. Rose also contains malic acid, pectin, and citric acid which make it a useful diuretic to flush the system of toxins and facilitate weight loss.
The Skinny
Rose boasts a delicate, floral aroma with a subtly sweet taste and pairs perfectly with our Darjeeling black to create the perfect blend for a Mother’s Day treat or a soothing cup any day of the week.
